I have 4 Indian Runners. Two were hatched sometime around the beginning of April and I believe the other two sometime in May. The older ones have all of their feathers and are looking like ducks as opposed to drakes. The other ones still have some fuzz. When will they quack? I thought I heard a quack a few weeks ago but then nothing. Just wondering more than anything else. I am hoping that once they quack they will freak out the dog enough that she won't cause another "tripping accident".

By the way, my one with the hurt leg is getting stronger and stronger every day. I hope to let her back with her friends by next week.

Drakes don't quack. Females do. Males have a whispery low rasp. That doesn't change, the difference just gets more noticeable as they get older. By 6/7 weeks it was clear to me which were males and females by their quack or lack of quack lol. If the younger ones are only maybe 4 weeks old then you still have a couple weeks tops before the quacks or rasps might become really noticeable to you. Did you buy them sexed?

I did not have them sexed. Maybe they are all drakes... they don't have the curly tail but maybe they are all still young. I am noticing that they are not standing as tall as I have seen in the pictures others have... the feed and seed store we bought them from claimed they were chocolate runners... but I am wondering if they are actually Khaki Campbells... I guess I will need to put some pictures on here!!

I have some Runners that came from my feedstore which gets them from Ideal Poultry. They don't look like Runners at all. They look like a typical pet duck shape. I have Runners from Metzers and they do stand upright like a typical Runner.

This is one of my Runners from Ideal at 5 weeks. Crested one in the front.

Here is one of my Runners from Metzers. Isn't she lovely? Even by 5 weeks she was quacking hardcore. LOL

You can see my crested runner (Ideal) now and right nest to her is another one of my Runners (Metzers).

The black one is also a Runner (Ideal)- we think. We actually thought she was a Cayuga for a long time but she doesn't have that pretty green sheen to her. So we know she is not a Cayuga. We assume now she is just a hatchery quality Runner. Or maybe she is a Black East India (but they are smaller, shorter beaks and have a green sheen too and my girl does not have any of those qualities so back to the runner lol)? Those are the only 3 black ducks Ideal sells- BE India, Runner and Cayuga. So she has to be one of them.
