Heyyyy. So, sad news.. A fox ended up finding a way into the coop and well, destroyed the rest of my quail.. :( But, since quail are such fun, easy, and cute birds to raise, I decided to try it again, and have the adventure all over again.. :) Hopefully this time I'll be more successful unlike last time, and try having a little bit more tame birds. This time, instead of it being my first time raising poultry and having 50 little chicks to care for, (which by the way was an absolute disaster) I've found a breeder that sells week old chicks, and I plan on getting 2. Is 2 a good number? Here's my plan: get their starter in a 5lb bag, set up a medium sized plastic tub with pine shavings, clean the long feeder and auto waterer with bleach, then rinse well, (just so that it'll be disinfected because I've used them both for my quail and chickens and I know how sensitive chicks can be, but would bleach be okay to use?) set the heat lamp, get the chicks, and, well, raise them from there! How does it sound, does it all look okay? :p

Alright, good idea! I know quail are small little birds and can get sick easily while they're chicks, so I should've thought of that before, but thanks for reminding me!

If you want to end out with a breeding group, you need at least 4 girls for a roo. Statistically speaking, you'd need 8 chicks to achieve this, but I'd get 10-12 to be (almost) sure. If you just want pets and a few eggs, two girls should be fine, but again you'd need 4 to have a reasonable chance of two girls and preferably more.

I think I'll just get 4 and see what I end up with.. Be it all boys, all girls, but what should I do with other quail? I only want 2 females.
