Hi everyone, newbie here!

My question is, can you feed japanese quail chicken feed? I know about the protein difference, but could you suppliment? I have my first chicks in the brooder right now, and quail eggs ready to hatch. My plan is to keep them together as adults, but I would like them to be able to eat the same feed.

Thanks in advance!

The feed requirements are different. Not only does the quail need almost double the protein intake, their size difference is an issue. Chickens will peck quail to death and even eat at them.

Quail and Chickens should not be raised together. It will result in a death sentence. Disease will get them. You may be able to get by without disease for a SHORT time but it will get them if raised together. Separate pairs of gloves can be worn when handling if raised on the same property to avoid transmission of diseases. If you separate the containment areas on the same property you have a far greater chance of success without disease.

Best of wishes to ya.
