Just curious…my quail are in a pen with a wire floor. Is there any reason I shouldn’t or couldn’t put a 12x12 piece of sod or two in the pen for them to enjoy some grass? I guess I’m worried about chemicals or insecticides that may hurt them, but would love to give them something to play on/in.

I guess that’s the million dollar question. Has anyone done it, and are there chemicals and insecticides in Lowe’s or Home Depot sod? I don’t care if they kill it as long as it’s a treat for them.

I would grow the grass from seed if I were you, there's no way those perfect sod plots with only grass on them WEREN'T grown with pesticides. Make two or three planters, and you can rotate them out before the birds totally kill them!

I toss them things from my garden, like pea pods and squash leaves. In the fall I gave them whole vines after harvest and they ran around the cage playing tug of war, highly recommend, lol
