Quail are FINALLY hatching on day 21!

Oh, I forgot they were that old. I keep my young quail(up to 2 weeks) and
my young chicks(up to 3 weeks) together in the heated brooder cage.
Then they go in the cooler brooder cage.

I've got birds from 10 different staggered hatches in the cages now and
have had no problems at all other than I'm out of space.

At 4 weeks my quail go into the barn. I put down hay for them to nest
in.

I need to go take a pic.

I am hesitant to put them (the quail) outside where they have been in the garage in a heated brooder for a while and it's 32 degrees here right now as the sun is coming up. What do YOU think? They will be 4 weeks old on Monday.

I could also bring my big 75 gallon aquarium brooder downstairs as my starter brooder. I think I probably need to anyway with all these chicks I have about to hatch.

Sounds like they are all just moving right along! Come on chickies!!!

It's 12 degrees here today. I have 3 week old quail that need to get out
of the brooders to make room for more. I'll probably just put them in a
big plastic bin and keep them inside. Usually I have extra cages with
heat lamps out in the barn where I would put them. My barn is destroyed
right now due to my construction projects so that is not an option. Plus
I'm keeping all my birds away from the barn until 6 weeks because of
my cocci outbreak where I lost 7 young silkies.

Back to your question. Yes, set up another brooder. You have a lot
of birds and more coming yet. They are gonna need space as they
grow anyways.

Thanks PC! I have a couple ideas I'm going to try right now and I'll get it all figured out. I have places and options, I just need to work them right.

I can't take pics of chicks in the Sportsman. You guys are going to have to wait for me to take them out.

I think you should MAKE an upright cabinet type incubator - add that to your honey-do list for winter. !!!! I know you can, just go look for someone throwing out a cabinet of somekind and convert it - make sure you have a window OK!
