Hey all!
So there’s some panic over the virus officially on in my city, and apparently it extends to animal bedding? Hardly any feed left in the stores, empty shelves in all my usual spots for bedding, along with toiletries for me too being gone! I cannot find fresh shavings ANYWHERE for my quail! I’ve been using shredded paper in the meantime, but it starts stinking a lot faster and I don’t have enough to completely clean the cage. Any DIY tips for good bedding? Trying to order online but shipping is slow too.

Wish I could help with your bedding situation. You could buy a wood chipper/shredder and make your own. Eventually, depending on how much you spend, it would eventually pay for itself. Tractor Supply here charges $6 per bag of chips.

Also, why not use dirt?

As far as the TP shortage goes, I'm not shaking anyone's hands. Not because of any virus but because they are likely out of TP!!! :old:old
:wee

I could pick up some non-fertilizer added dirt! That might work! You’re right about the toilet paper though...Good thing I already was crazy about cleaning my hands! I wonder what I’m going to do when I run out!

Peat moss would be good. It's lovely and dusty so they love bathing in it, and it absorbs like nobody's business. But being dusty it will get into their feeders and waterers (though it doesn't make the water stinky like shavings do).

Peat moss is going to be my choice then! I’ll stop by my local trifecta of garden shops to look for some. Unless people randomly decided peat was the cure to corona, I think it’ll be in supply 😉
