Quail Breed Question...

I've read several posts that lead me to believe that Chinese Painted Quail are the same as Button Quail... Is that correct?
Are there other names for this same bird?

Chinese painted quail/ button quail/ king quail/ and a host of others--- it gets really confusing when you look at zoological classification--- chinese painted are Coturnix, coturnix chineses and regular coturnix quail are Coturnix, coturnix, japonica.

Chicken Obsessed, Isn't amazing how many names there are for the Chinese Blue Breasted Quails??? It is incredible!!! Poor little quail is so misunderstood!!! Originally they were classified as Coturnix Chinensis, however, once Robert Swinehoe (an early ornithologist) recognized the the similarities between the Chinese Blue breasted Quails and the African Blue Breasted Quail and it led them to being catalogued in their own separate genus, Excalfactoria, due to their physiological similarities.

So in reality, they are now classified as Excalfactoria chinensis. Formely known as Coturnix chinensis.

Too much confusion... sigh
