Quail Breeders Australia?

Oh, I hear ya on your troubles finding quail. My daughter, with my help has decided she wants to breed them to make pocket money after we realised they are hard to get yet highly sought after. She was introduced to them 2 years ago when her grandfather bought several to control the bugs in his vegie patch only to have several die fairly soon after buying them, (fox trouble on the farm and other predators, not disease), so he bought some eggs in for my daughter to incubate. Only had 5 eggs and all but one hatched with that one not being fertile! Anyway, to cut a long story short she was hooked! (And maybe me a little bit too

.) So the journey began and then last year we had a few too many, only a few, so advertised them for sale on gumtree without stating how many we had for sale. Within a day or so a guy rang up wanting to buy 50!!! We only had 5 for sale. LOL.

Anyway, to try and keep the story short we needed new bloodline to continue breeding, and have found it quite difficult to find fertile quail eggs, especially in Victoria. Not much help but just wanted to share.

Haha! Sounds marvelous.
I've found a few places, but the prices are all crazy (I might resort to them if I get too desperate).
Do you still sell them? Or know anyone from down there that does?

I do still sell them when we have enough, but at the moment I only have males for sale as our hatch that has reached maturity are mostly males which isn't much help to most people wanting to breed. Once we really get things up and running we will be able to sell more, and once they start laying, which should be any day now, we will be able to sell fertile eggs. Batch in the incubator will be our last hatch until after our summer holiday so won't be using our own fertile eggs until end of January. Wouldn't sell any fertile eggs from our old stock as they are a bit too closely related.

I found Gumtree to be the best place for sourcing eggs.

Our current ones in the incubator are from a chicken seller, of both live ones and fertile eggs, that we bought fertile chicken eggs from last year. Had a great hatch rate for posted eggs - 17 out of 22. She doesn't sell quail eggs but knows someone who does so sourced them for us and arranged postage.

Are you after eggs or live quail?

In the past I had been after eggs. But my incubator doesn't work, so I'm thinking live birds. :)

Well like I mentioned, we have some males for sale atm. Pm me if you are interested in going for a drive. They will be sold to the pet store next week if not. Tried to post a pic but it isn't working, but will try again if interested.

They are coturnix.

Still can't get photo to work but have posted it in a thread titled "Issue sexing quail"
