Hi all. I am doing some research on quail cages and was wondering what cages do you guys house your quail in and why? Also how do you clean your cages and how do you clean aviaries? Thanks for those of you who reply.

I use the Midwest guinea pig cage. It's spacious and has a divider so I can house different breeds. The bottom of the cage is washable. But I usually just change the bedding.

I have a very small yard, so not much space for large cages.
I have a commercial chicken coop (leftover from when i had chooks) and I made a 120cm x 60cm with a divider that can be opened up to be one cage.
I have a two tier rabbit hutch in the house for the babies that just came out of the brooder that aren't ready to spend the night outside yet. Its winter here and VERY windy where I live, so baby steps right now. My partner and i carry it outside on good days.

I use paper shavings in the brooder and hay outside. Just scoop it all out and either put it on the garden or in the composter. If the composter is full then i just roll it into the bin. (Line the bottom with newspaper so i can just roll it up.) The cage i made is mesh bottom with hay over it. The coop pen has dirt bottom. I just shovel out the dirt when i need and put it in the garden and add more.

When they need a good proper clean i scoop everything out and hose it down.

Very cool little coop going on there, I'm very new to quail keeping and still have them in my brooder to keep a lonely baby chicken company, I planned out a coop I'm going to build this week or next, it'sgoing to be 2' wide 3' long and 3' off the ground made from 2x4s and 1/2 inch wire mesh. I want to give them an area where they can get up off the wire though. Any suggestions? I was thinking a layer box just to give them a place to hide and like I said get up off the mesh. I also can't find info on whether or not they need a perch.

If the quails are coturnix they dont need a perch, they like the ground :)

I use seedraiser cartons and kitty litter trays, put some sand in and theyll love it.
With hay on the wire mine arent walking on bare wire all the time. I just felt so bad for them.
