Quail chick alone - is it a good idea to put a mirror in his cage?

I've put the mirror in the cage with my 3 day old Japanese quail. He tends to sPend a lot of time looking at it and pecking, bringing it food etc. I wonder if this is too much of a distraction that he should spend his time eating and growing. He is supper active in his cage runs around a lot.
I am thinking of getting him a buddy ( see related earlier post) for now I thought the mirror was a good idea or is it?

Most definitely with the mirror. He will believe that there are quail behind that mirror to keep him company. You can always get a feather duster and turn it up side down so the feathers are on the bottom. Prop it up in the corner and he might crawl inside to feel like he is bunking with something feathered.
