Quail Chicks Heating

I covered the cage up and notice a change in growth/ body language from last night. I need to make a new setup for this. If you are keeping them in the brooder for 4 weeks dont they just tear up the paper bedding you have? Or what do you use as bedding?

I keep mine over wire after they are about 3-5 days old. For the first few days though real towels work better than paper or shavings as bedding. You can just shake them out and wash them over again.

I'm also interested in how your box is set up with wire. I raised mine in the summer when it was hot so I put those stinky little guys outside at 3 weeks old. Their heat was shut off at 2 1/2 weeks, it was 80 in my bathroom where they were kept with out it. They did great. I want to hatch some early spring but the only place I have to keep them is inside my house in my 2nd bathroom. A setup where the chicks could be on wire at a week old would make it a lot easier I think.

No my tupperware container is just has the center of the lid cut out. I use a towel in that with chicks for 3-5 days. Then they go out to a plywood brooder with 1/4" wire floors and a removable turd tray. You can do the same thing using 1x2s for a frame and 1/4" wire in the floor of the tupperware. Just cut a slot in one end of the tupperware for your poo tray to slide in and out. I'm a carpenter so when I need stuff I usually generate it and I've found that there is almost nothing you'll need to house them you can't make yourself with just a few items. I'll try to take a picture later if I get a chance.
