Hi!

I have the New Age Pet ecoChoice Fontana Chicken Pen and I need to put a roof on it. I live in Texas where it gets to 110 F so I need something to protect them. Any Ideas?

Second that. I think the 3 x 8 ft panels are 14 and change at home depot. I would go with the white or green available. The clear is very hard and cracks easily.

You can use some corrugated panels but don't use clear or light colors, they will get too hot underneath! Think greenhouse effect. Use dark and opaque colors. If you go the corrugated panel route put some foam board under the panels, it will help greatly to insulate the quail from the heat so they can stay cooler.

I'm dreading the summer, it's already up in the 90s here! Do you use misters at all to help cool your outdoor quail?

It's getting into the 90s here too and I'm worried about my quail overheating later. Where can you get misters? I searched online at homedepot and lowes but didn't see any. Thanks.

I got mine directly from Homedepot. The heads unscrew from the system so you can soak them in vinegar to dissolve the salt/calcium deposits that inevitably form on them and clog the heads. That keeps them misting fully if you soak them every couple of weeks.

The nice thing about the DIY kits is you can configure the system so the mist heads are right where you need them to be to cool your birds.
