Quail egg color

Will the cream base vary in darkness? Like can one hen lay different shades of cream?

Yup. I have one hen who lays an egg with a white tip. One doesn't lay speckled eggs, but looks like those seashell chocolate candies, with swirled brown. Another lays an egg that's dark on the fat end and gets lighter.

Hrmm. Well, I have four laying per day, and I really only have four shades. I can match eggs up and have a batch all from the same hen. My buttons are the same way. My little bluish-green egg laying button was thrown off laying because I had to clip the sharp part of her beak off because she's nasty. I would say that they lay the same color egg, if they lay speckled eggs, she should always lay speckled eggs, if they lay blotchy ones, it should always be blotchy, etc. But, I could be wrong, this is just my limited experience with my own flock.

Thats what i was thinking. I think i may have two little quail laying now

. All the eggs i've gotten to far haven been in one spot everytime and they all looked the same. This one was on the opposite side of the pen and the cream was way darker than the previous eggs i was getting.

No, they can lay different looking eggs from the same bird. I have 3 'older' jumbo hens and every so often I get one of those darker looking eggs. It is very brown looking with tiny little brown spots on it. I don't think I ever get an egg that looks exactly the same as another egg!

The spots are the last thing 'added' to the egg, so if the hen lays the egg earlier or later than normal, this would effect the color of the egg.

Well i didn't mean exactly but i mean the color variation wasn't very off. This is way darker i mean i didn't even have to compare to notice it. I seen the difference in the pen.

It could be from a different one, but don't count on it. Like I said, I have gotten some different looking eggs out of a pen that I have 3 birds in, and I always get 3 eggs out of that pen

I keep my buttons in only pairs.. I get slight differences in egg color from the same hen.. One time she laid an egg with only one spot.. Most of the time lots of spots.. And I get different shades of colors from one hen.. Some times she lays a darker egg. Some times lighter.. Most of the time they are about the same size. But the size also varies once in awhile..
