Are celadon layers less reliable?

As my little celadon covey has matured, I've noticed fewer lay reliably. It could be winter, but I do have some supplemental light and the top covey with varied color quail are still at about 75% production from their high point. Is it common for celadon to lay less overall? Less reliable layers?

In my experience, it depends on the line. They often lay more fragile eggs, but the current line that I have from Myshire have produced strong eggs and a lot of eggs. The eggs are smaller than most, though.

My previous line (that got wiped out when someone vandalized my greenhouse) had fragile shells, but normal sized eggs. They also laid consistently.

Mine seem to require higher calcium levels and sometime produce a soft shell egg but the eggs are in general big and frequent, I’m actually hoping to have less celadon as I prefer the speckles but that’s not how my flock is trending, probably depends on line and genetics more than shell color. I know I have some regular birds with small or infrequent eggs but can’t pinpoint who in. Group pen.

I keep mine for eggs and as pets and I got the red range tuxedos for their colors, not the celadon eggs, so the drop in egg production was a bit of a downer for me. I have more on order already because my covey ended up being all hens and a needed a roo, but am finding I prefer the regular laying and the spotted eggs. I'll have to think on it. They might just end up being closer to pets and I enjoy them for them.
