Storebought eggs usually have a code on the carton that tells you how old they are.

I've gone past the sell-buy date on the carton a few times. I don't really notice a difference.

I DO notice a HUGE difference between old store eggs and old farm eggs.

I have read on here somewhere that if you put an egg in water and it sinks, it is safe to eat. If it floats, it's garbage. I can't vouch for this though.
