quail eggs

a hatcher is where you put the eggs to hatch with increased humidity.

Rooster im on day 16 on my 12 contourix quail eggs, I have 4 pips! Just noticed it at 3am this morning. This is my first experience with quail, so i enjoyed reading your thread, very timely, I hope i dont have to wait 3 days for those pipped eggs to hatch! i was hoping it would be today! im so anxious (sp?) to see them! Good luck, keep us posted on your hatch!

Just make sure they don't get stuck under the carton - I've lost a couple of quail that did that and couldn't get out.
Congratulations! Patience won out again!

How about an update???

When do you stop turning? Day 16? Today is day 14 for my 50 eggs.

Technically you stop turning on day 14, and they hatch on day 16. I'm thinking the temps were a little low, despite what the thermometer said.

Oh I love you.

(Running downstairs to turn off the turner on my brinsea)

My wiggler temps have been a steady 99.4 and my air temp was 100.4.
The bator only reads Celcius and is at 37.8.

And you have Coturnix or Button quail eggs in there, right? Bobwhites are 23 days.

If everything is just right, you'll see your first pip, then a couple more, then a couple more, then one will pop out, and then all of them will follow... but be patient. It can take 15 minutes... it can take 3 days.

Sam's babies are adorable little chunks... I have 15 of them in the brooder, and they are the sweetest things. 3 weeks old tomorrow, I'm starting to pick out the males and females. 3 more weeks and they'll start laying!

Do you have a brooder ready? They're small enough to get heads stuck in 1/2" hardware cloth, so use 1/4". They need food/water fairly quickly, so give them a couple of hours to dry, then quickly transfer them to the brooder. I usually try to wait until there's a point where there aren't any quail actively zipping before opening the hatcher. Be sure to put marbles in the waterer... I almost lost one today because I forgot to put them in there.

And grind up their food and sprinkle it all over the floor of the brooder.
(Sorry if you know all that already ... )

Thanks for all that. It's good stuff. The marbles are a good point. We've
hatched a couple hundred chickens and usually give them water in a shallow jar top
until they are big enough to drink from the small waterers. As for the brooder I have
both a guinea pig cage that I usually use and a rubbermaid bin as a backup.
We have game bird food and nonmedicated chick starter. I was gonna do a blend
for them. I'll probably add a vitamin/EL supplement to the water too.

Thanks again Mrs-AK. You are truly the quail queen.
