Quail failure - Updated Again - Bad

This is why I NEVER add up how much I spend on goats!

I'd be in sooo much trouble.

No worries about the highjack. I just hope my luck starts picking up soon.

Ahhh I never have much luck with an incubator either, very low hatch rate. But if you use your own eggs you haven't spent any money. They say practise makes perfect...problem is I only get to practise in the spring and by the next spring I am no further ahead because of my memory:>)
Good luck to you. Just have fun with it if nothing else!

I have really bad hatch rates with my quail too. Even with my OWN eggs I only have about half develop and less than half of those hatch. That's with 1 male to three female (of course, I have a pair of bobwhites in there too, so maybe that's part of it. I've been saying for three months that I need to get them out before she starts to lay, and it's time for her to start popping out eggs now!).

Definitely play around with your own eggs, though, as they're free (comparatively), and it'll help you figure out the quirks of your incubator.

Good luck!

I haven't had the best of luck with quails either. especially the buttons. out of 45 coturnix eggs i got a dozen babies. not sure what it is, shipping perhaps? i've heard of people having great success with shipped quail eggs. perhaps we can hear from someone. maybe i just wasn't meant to have quail

I usually have pretty decent hatches on quail, but the ones that have hatched the best were from a person in my own state, so idk if that had something to do with it. Though this last time the eggs were in the mail for a full week, and I still had 21 of 44 eggs hatch

I normally use my hovabator for quail, as it's the one with the quail turner racks, but before I got the hova, I used my still air LG just fine. I actually had 17 of 21 hatch from my first batch of eggs that were sent from the same person, and 4 of the eggs were broken when they arrived. And it was the end ov November, and the eggs took 3 days to arrive.

But I don't know what to say. What works for me doesn't work for other people, it is really just a trial and error. I would recommend either trying to get eggs cheap from someone on here or looking on ebay for some that are relatively cheap.

But don't give up!! It will get better!

Keep trying!!!! I started my incubator up this janurary, and have only been able to hatch 2 of 60 eggs so far. I've got another 40 or so in the bator at the moment (and pre-ordered more eggs n chicks) to jumpstart stuff. I feel your pain I really do... All we gotta do is cross our fingers and hope for the best!

I've got an LG bator...didn't know about the others till I found this place. I had 12 of 15 eggs hatch on my first go round.....

Keep on trying and make sure you follow the instructions and advice form the good folks here. I'll be upgrading my bator in the near future, but util then will probably run another batch of eggs through it......
