Can Chinese Quail eat poultry laying mash thanks.

IT depends on what you want your quail for? IF you want them for egg layers than I would feed them something with more protein with at least 20%. I keep all my quail on starter food and they are doing great!

Thanks, how do I give it to them, do I put water in it our just give it to them plain?

I dont feed mash as its not high enough in protein but I am sure someone will chime in.

I just give it to them dry and they eat it non stop... lay eggs every day for me. I do give them oyster shells too but just a little here and there.

.68 % soybean 6.8 lbs @ 37%protein
not to mention all the bugs they catch daily!

Yields 10 lb of mash at 28% protein (insects not included). Guud enough for my quail!

Sometimes the larger birds will bully while feeding and go for the larger grains leaving the smaller. Even though all is ground or crushed to whatever size, most times the grain sizes from several grains will be different. This might lead to the higher or lower protein grain being eaten while leaving the other smaller grains for the others.
If the bird has a house fly and the larger horse fly to choose from, sees both, and they are equal distance from the bird, which one will it go for first? Then after he catches it, how many other chase the bird trying to steal its bounty?

If you want to go through the trouble of making crumbles from the mash, mix it with water into a very thick/dry crumbly dough. Rake it across a 1/8 inch MESH screen allowing it to crumble and fall through the screen, then let it dry out. Its best to have some plastic down to catch the crumbles.

To note on this, chicks are commonly feed mash and as they grow progress to harder and larger grains. In one article I read about this a while back, a study was done on feeding Mash, Crumble and pellet to a group of adult birds. The adult did better feeding on a larger pelleted grain mix than Mash. That is not to say anything against the rest of the BackYarders or say the bird will not survive on Mash, just that they might gain an ounce or two more.
Personally I feed in this order:
Mash - for chicks
Crumble- for Juviniles
Adults- Since I have Quail and Pheasant I stop a crumble but pellet is supposedly the choice for Chickens...that or cracked corn and other seed that the bird can eat.
