Quail Forum Information

Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain :

I have one word to describe Coturnix eating-habits... piranha.

They are like little piranha especially in the mornings when I turn on their
light and they start popping. I'm so glad we hatched them.

I'm really excited about PP hatching your eggs. I'm loaning her my Brinsea to
incubate them. She better give it back.

Mine in the morning when tehy see me walking up to their coop/hutch whatever you wanna call it start making this high pitched cry....they normally only do that when they're separated from eachother, but they now use it to say "HEY bring that food to me feeder person!" it's really cute...i love feeding them outof my hand...but its' not fun when about 5 quail clamber on to my one hand togeher...im already bent over to be feeding them this way as it is and with them doing that i feel like my arms going to fall off :)Only cool thing is they're training my button quail pippin to also eat out of my hand

I hope so too! LOL!
I'm pretty sure I'll have coturnix eggs for her, but I'm slowly losing my Buttons... I'm only getting a couple eggs a day now. Must be the end of the season.

To start this was a great idea!!!

I have coturnix eggs in the incubator - what day should I take them off the turner? Day 14 or day 15? I must have done something wrong last time because I only hatched out 6.

I need housing ideas for the coturnix. Can you please post pics? We are going to build this in my basement which is where I keep all my buttons and do my hatching. Also, any info as to how many should be kept together would be great. Thanks!

I have two different pens... one inside that is 4x4'x8' tall, and they're on shavings. The other is more like a rabbit hutch... 3x5'x4' tall on wire. I prefer the wire, because it keeps them and the eggs clean, but that's just me.

Stop turning on day 14. If your temps have been a little low, though, they can take up to 18-19 days, or start pipping on day 15 if the temps are high.
Just be patient... they CAN take a long time between pip and hatch, but once one is out, they ALL will be out in the matter of hours.

Thanks for the offer Omni.

Here is the reality:

Many BYC members have quail in addition to chickens.
It would be great to have a section dedicated to quail.
The trouble is many people have ducks & turkeys too who don't have their own forum.
It wouldn't be fair to have a quail forum without a duck & turkey forum too.

Maybe Nifty is watching and could add those 3 new forums to the index.
Ducks
Turkeys
Quail
