Quail hatched in October, shouldn't they be laying by now?

How many boys do you have? How much light are they getting?

I will get some photos during our lecture break. I have one bird that makes a chirrup noise, like "prrrrr WOW" I wouldn't call it a crow but maybe that's what a quail crow sounds like I have one that ribbets like a frog. Those are the only 2 noises I've heard other than little short chirps.

Crowing, and a contact call made by females. If you post some pictures, maybe we can help sex them! Getting rid of extra boys is important because they can be quite aggressive, and while it might not be the case now the hens can possibly stop laying due to stress.
More likely they just haven’t started laying yet. Most of mine have laid this year, but I still have a handful who haven’t.

OK thank you! They are quite docile so it shouldn't be too hard to get photos. They are Coturnix, supposedly, some with the Celadon gene? Can you tell I am new to quail

Time to get them off the Gamebird feed and onto a layer feed. Higher protein layer feed if possible.

They won’t lay over winter unless you supplement their light.

Chicken layer feed. I found one with 18% protein. Not sure where you get your feed but TSC carries Feather Fixer which is 17 or 18% protein

I feed my chickens a 50:50 mix of Purina Layena Layer (16% protein) and Flock Raiser (20%) because I have a lot of ducks and roosters and I think they do better not getting so much of the layer feed. Perhaps I can do the same for the quail.
