Monarc and shelleyd..quail are hatching!!! Now what? I do have questions: take them out at 24 hrs? anything special in the water..feed?...I am noticing that they are already pecking at each other while still in the bator..is this normal..tell me anything you think I might need to know..I realize I know very little about quail..lol

They're hatching?? That's great!! They will peck at each other, that's just the way they are. It's usually the older ones picking on the younger ones. Sorry I wasn't on earlier, it was kind of sunny for a while today

Anyway, yes you need to take them out not more than 24 hours after they hatch, 12 is better.

They need to eat and drink earlier than chickens do.

I keep a bowl of 'baby food' in the fridge for baby quail. It's basically moistened flock raiser, that I mash up with a fork. I keep it in the fridge so it doesn't spoil. You can give them some cooked egg yolk to get them started on eating. If you have a food processor or coffee grinder then you can do that instead. The bigger crumbles are too big for baby quail to eat, and they'll make a mess wasting it looking for the smaller pieces.

You need to have a small waterer, like a quail chick waterer. If you don't have one, you can use a chick waterer, but make sure you have marbles or rocks or something in the water to keep them from getting in it.

They are basically the same as chickens, but they seem to do better if you keep the brooder temps about 98*. If they are cold they'll pile up on each other, often squishing the littler ones on the bottom.

Let me know how many hatched!! This is so exciting!!
