Quail Hatching

I put 17 quail eggs in my incubator 16 days ago now and amazingly 17 have made it through to hatching day alive!! When I candled then before lockdown they had all grown like pictures have shown me on the internet. So far 8 have pipped!! This is my first time hatching quail though, when should I start worrying about the eggs not hatching? should I help them after a certain amount of time?

Don’t start worrying. Only start worrying when they’re past their hatching date

Sorry correction it’s day 16! So I shouldn’t worry until tomorrow then?

Not until it’s at least 5 days after the hatching day.

Just keep candle lighting the eggs to see if they are alive. And if they are, there’s nothing to worry about. It’s like a human child, sometimes they’re born after the due date and they’re perfectly fine!

I've had king quails hatch on day 18, but I've also had them hatch on day 20 and 22. It can vary for many reasons. I've not had to assist a hatch yet, so just give them a chance and only worry if it's well past the due date.

So exciting 1 just hatched!! though it wasn't the first one that piped which I thought would hatch first since it's beak is sticking out of the egg a little at the moment. But this one surprised us and just broke out of it's shell so quickly.

When I woke up this morning another 5 had hatched!! Then by lunch time we had 11!! They all hatched so fast!! Then disaster struck our heater stopped working so we had to put a container of warm water in there and a wool hen over the top and quickly rush out to get a replacement!! They didn’t have a 100w globe in ceramic so we had to get at 75w and now it’s only sitting at 30 deg might have to go back and exchange it for a different type of globe in 100w.

Heating issues have been solved!! All but 1 has hatched!! fingers crossed that one hatched too.
