QUAIL HELP!!! Prolapsed egg? Not sure how to help her. (Warning: somewhat graphic images to some)

Good evening everyone,

This evening we noticed one of our girls has a large somewhat egg sized lump protruding from her bum area. It’s soft, and covered in skin (no egg is visible). I don’t know if she is egg bound, or if this is something else. Please let me know what I should do, if there is anything to be done for our girl. Thank you all in advance.

Is that the vent, or below it? Can you see the vent opening? How old is she and was she laying normally before this? It may be prolapse.

She was laying normally 2 days ago, yesterday we didn’t get an egg from her. It is just above the vent (closer the her breast).

If you can, tomorrow morning, get some more pictures, separate the feathers so we can see better where it is, size, etc. I'm wondering if it's a breast blister, or an ingrown feather. You said it was soft, if you push on it gently will it go back in, or not (don't force anything). Does it move around or is it solidly attached where it is? Breast blisters are like bumblefoot, but on the breast, and can be caused by roosting improperly and resting/rubbing that area on the roost, or from sleeping in bedding rather than roosting. A tumor is also possible. Is this a bantam? How old?
Asking because it looks small.

It should be a Coturnix quail. She’s probably a little under a year now. I will get more pictures in the am. She’s been separated and housed indoors for the night. It was soft, and I did try to push it back in, I gently pushed and worked it back in as I read you would do if it was a prolapse. But it came back out quite easily.

The mass is about as large as a quails egg.

If it goes back in then it's possibly a hernia. And since it appears irritated from rubbing or maybe from being pecked at, that would be concerning. Some hernia's can become strangulated, which can be fatal (that means the part sticking out, often intestine) gets circulation cut off).
I don't have quail, just chickens, so no personal experience with quail. Hopefully a quail person will chime in. You might want to edit your post title and put "Quail" in it, so others will know.
