Would my quail appreciate having a small box to hide from predators/storms? I have a large enclosure now but it's all open to the elements. If I build them a small box with a tiny opening, would they use it? What about a birdhouse that is slightly off the ground? Same question for nest boxes... how many people with quail have them laying in boxes?

Here's a picture of my quail's pen.

That looks cool but are those squashes for you to eat or for them?
And would they be able to hop into a bird house if it was slightly off the ground?
They prefer on ground accommodations. They can hop up, but the opening should be nice and big, I think.

That's a zucchini plant, and I was pretty much done with it. I left a couple of big zucchini on it when I moved the quail in to that garden bed, and they pecked holes in it and ate part of them. They got a treat and something to play with.

I have 3 raised garden beds that I've been moving my quail into as I pull most of the last plants out of them for the winter. They spend the winter fertilizing them, and come spring they move to another part of my yard to keep the weeds under control. I move them about once every 4-6 weeks.

You're completely right. I gave them a small pallet until I can make something nicer. These cuties spend half their day under it!
