I started to hatch 12 golden manchuria eggs from a local farm when my husband was out of state as entertainment (I wanted laying hens but was bought by the quail being quiter than chicken, I live in a mobile home in howard county md) dont know how much time I could have gotten away with it. I have a 1 year old that requires my full attention so by one week regulating my self made Styrofoam incubator I could not keep up and left the eggs alone with no other than a heating pad, well.....suprise! One little chick made it! I was so happy I could not believe it!I had a beautiful yellow mini chick
I was going to keep her inside as a pet and this morning at 4 days old I found her dead.....drowned in her water (a Gerber cap) I just feel so sad she was a miracle and to just find her.....dead, anyone with a similar experience? All I know is I am never hatching eggs again without a good incubator.....oh my
I'm sorry your lost your little bird. I've never raised quail but with little chicks, marbles or small stones in the waterer can prevent them from drowning. When you're ready to take another go at raising quail, you could try that.
