Hi,
On a whim, I purchased a dozen quail eggs that were sitting in a basket for around 6 days at my local feed store. I put them in a dish tub with a red heat bulb and a thermometer used for brooding. I put a cup of water in the tub for moisture. lets see..... I think the thermometer read 104 more than once, the lamp I was using died, allowing the temp to drop to 85 overnight and didn't mark them so I'm not even sure how many i was actually turning. 15 days later, I got an incubator and some chicken eggs from a friend, so I put the quail eggs in there too.

I read threads on this site and figured they were all lost to stupidity and was planning on float testing them tomorrow (day 21). Well today I came home to TWO little chicks! I'm still trying to figure out how that happened and how long I should wait before floating the rest. Any suggestions?

Congrats on them hatchling, you did something right for them to hatch. They are past due already huh? I would candle, you can see movement and prolly pip's into the air sack if all is well. Keep us posted!

I candle my buttons all the time, you just need a bright enough light and make sure it's a dark room too. They sure are awesome, and be careful.. addicting too! Lol

They are still in the brooding bin but growing FAST! Can they go in my coop with Bantam Silkies and Cochins? Hoppy is very sweet and will sit in my hands but Speck isn't as tame.

Some say yes. others no. It depends on your chickens, if they will not hurt the quail. And then if you are putting them together and they get along, there are some diseases that are transferable between the two that are deadly to quail. It's your call....
