What are you feeding your laying quail? I'm very confused on what they should be receiving nutritionally.

ANY info on great brands/proper protein levels/proper calcium levels/etc. to keep them healthy and laying normal eggs would be appreciated! Thank you!

I have been using Homestead Harvest Quail Layer which has 26% protein and 3.5% calcium. Before that I used Southern States Specialty Flock Layer and was happy too.

Dumor 16% lay crumble (plus random veggies, a little scratch, and whatever unfortunate critters wander into their pen). The lay crumble is the only feed they will eat without flinging it everywhere.

I use Hudson feed gamebird pellets and they’re wonderful. 24% protein.

I just ordered southern states sporting bird crumble, but I haven’t gotten it yet, it looks pretty good, and is less expensive than the other I’m using.

I use a gamebird breeder feed with 20% and calcium. I don’t mind the slightly smaller eggs, I feel it’s safest for them and might help them live longer. Higher protein might get you bigger eggs.

Here is a copy of the feed tag for the food from Southern States and Homestead Harvest.
