Hey there, I'm getting ready to hatch out some quail and it will be my first time raising quail. I've hatched them before but never really raised them. I've been reading up on how to take care of them but I haven't really seen anything on their laying behavior. If I make them a little nest box will they lay their eggs in it? Or do they just lay where ever they please no matter what I do? Any advise will be much appreciated thanks

We don't raise quail, but we have seen @Sill set up. They use small baskets attached to the cage. The size of the baskets are about 4inches by 3-4 inches.. I do believe they have a thread just for quail..

Here is a quail cast iron skillet, cute huh??

It depends on what type of set up you have. If you keep them in pens, hutches or cages on wire, most likely they will just lay their eggs where ever they are at the time they need to lay. If you provide some grass hay, they may be inclined to make nests and lay in the nests. If you keep them in aviaries and provide little hidy places like over turned planters or buckets with holes cut into them, they will sometimes enjoy these hidy places. Or putting in brush piles, they will nest under the piles in a corner.

Quail don't really use nesting boxes per say. In the wild they would just build a nest out of grasses in some hidden place away from predators.

My bobs and button quail lay in nests I provide but sometimes they laid outside the nest so id say put a box in. My bob has gone broody in her nest box
