Hi everyone I am going to build a quail pen 4ft wide by 12ft long. The floor will be wire and about 4ft tall. About how many bobwhites will I be able to keep in this size of pen?
Thanks

NO--- THAT RULE IS FOR COTURNIX QUAIL, NOT BOB WHITES WHICH ARE 1000'S MORE AGRESSIVE.

FOR BOBS A DECENT COVEY 24 OR SO BIRDS DEPENDING ON THE SEX MIX. THEY WILL WARRANT CLOSE OBSERVATION INITIALLY AND EACH TIME BREEDING SEASON ROLLS AROUND. REMEMBER, COTURNIX ARE THE ROACHES OF THE QUAIL WORLD.... BOB WHITES ARE THE JUNKYARD DOGS OF THE QUAIL WORLD..

Now Take That 4ft High Pen And Decrease It To 16-18 Inches And Double Stack It (makes 2 Pens 1 Directly Over The Other) Now Your Getting Closer To 50 Birds, And There Will Be Less Chance Of Them Flushing And Causing Injury To Themselves.

Well in my own experience I keep my 15 bobwhites in a 4x4x3 pen (LxWxH) with a 2x2 coop and they do just fine never seen them fighting or anything and as far as them flushing well thats not a problem for me at all it was at first but there getting more use to me now they just hide in their coop, but youre definatly right tho he can make two cages out of his pen.

Every bird has its own personality, some might need more space others less, sometimes certain animals are the exception and not the rule...

I've had birds live nicely with 1 square foot a bird, others fought aggressively with over 3 square feet a bird (and these were all coturnix) and they were fair male/female ratios.
