Quail production slowed drastically

May I ask the exact brand name of starter feed you are feeding the quail?
I would like to see the exact amounts of calcium that are in it.

Also, is it ok to put oyster shell in the pen if there are roosters in there? I’ve heard the excess calcium is bad for the males...

I’m not sure about the egg eating, I know mine had never eaten one in they’re lives until about three days after I had started feeding them smashed extra eggs. Then I went from getting over a dozen a day to getting about 4 a day and all the chickens had yolk dried on their faces and beaks. Then once they discovered how tasty eggs were they didn’t want to eat as much of their pellet feed. I built roll away boxes and don’t have any issues now. They will occasionally lay on the ground still but haven’t seen anybody egg eating anymore.

Roosters should ignore the oyster shell, which is why you want to have it available separate from the feed.

Quail don't seem to have issues with egg-eating. I don't think they would be very good at cracking open an egg like a chicken can.

Yes adding a dish of oyster shell is fine when you have roosters.
They may peck at it the first day or two but they will leave it a lone and not eat it. They know their body doesn't need it.
Birds are fairly smart.

Also...I am not seeing a 22% DuMor starter. Double check your bag...you may want to up it to the 24% starter.

Oops yes it’s the 24%, I’m not at home and was just going from memory. That is the one they get. Taking some oyster shell out to the quail today when I go. Thank you
