What sounds to hen quail make that roo quail don't?

Do only hens constantly make perring like soundes? Or do roos do it too?

Don't know what type of quail you're talking about but I have button quail. The males and females both make sounds, the females are usually more shrill. The males do make one sound that the females will not, I call it the woosh sound. The males puff their throats and go wooooooo woooo. Kind of like a quiet miniature gust of wind.

my hens also sometimes make a sound before they lay eggs that sounds like a super tiny kitten calling.

I have absolutely no idea as I only have button quail!! I'm sorry!! If I have to take a wild guess, maybe a roo? Just a guess!! It's a very lovely bird!
