I hatched a batch of six quail about two months ago and they all turned out female, and since I kept them inside a bit too long and gave them plenty of mealworms three of them are adorably cuddly around people. Since the first batch was doing so well I hatched another group, this time from MyShire. 11/12 hatched and one came out albino and failed to thrive, but the rest of them have all feathered up nicely and are about to join their sisters outdoors soon.
I’ve identified most of them from the MyShire website—one Pastel, two Roux/Egyptian, two Grau Fee/Charcoal, a Pansy, and a Pharaoh (I think). One of them is pure white, but definitely not their Jumbo English, it’s very small. It’s also got some leg problems, very wobbly and weak but not splay legged or with curled toes. So far it eats and drinks with no problem, and can totter about as fast as the others can walk.

The last one is really intriguing: it’s almost barred on the breast, with interesting neck and back markings. It doesn’t look at all like my Grau Fee or Pansy, what could it be?

For me it looks like a mix of grau fee and falb fee.
The breast and back is grau fee, but it looks like it gets a rusty head like a falb rooster.

Please keep us updated with more of these wonderful pictures 😃👍

maybe it's a tibetan - grau fee cross?

Is Grau Fee Rosetta pattern plus Fee? I’m a little unsure of the exact genetics.

Here are my grau and falb fee... I could see how it’s in between the two but I’m not sure if that cross would produce barring like that. I’ll definitely get more pictures once it’s got all the plumage in.

Also, one of the first batch has a very interesting coloration. It hatched out only a little lighter than the pharaoh wild type (had really bad splay leg and curled toe, fixed her up and she is now the meanest little speedster, lol!) but has developed into a really beautiful tan color. Definitely isn’t Roux/Egyptian dilute, but when searching around I found in an Australian site that there is another Dilute, which does not have the reddish color of Roux. I’m not sure how common that color is in the US, and these were hatched off of random eggs not from a breeder, but she’s the most lovely looking quail.

Yes, grau fee is the fee of rosetta/tibetan.

And the lighter pharaoh is lovley. It is also quite new in Germany and called brown-wild colored (literally translated).

Brown-wild
Brown-wild2

If I can get a hand on eggs, it will be my next breed 👍
