quail quit laying?

My coturtix quail are about 6 months old (original 8 breeder stock) and the other 30 are younger. I WAS getting about 4 or 5 eggs a day from my 8 breeders but for the last several weeks I am lucky to get 2 eggs a day. Out of the remaining 30 or so quail, more than 20 are old enough to have started to lay by now but they have not laid a single egg yet. Is it the heat here in SC? Will they begin to lay when the weather cools down a bit? Aren't they supposed to lay year round? HELP! PLEASE!

I'm not sure but I got 2 eggs a day from 9 week olds, I have 4 so here in Orlando it's plenty hot for sure

It could be temp, light hrs, stress and "sameness"... If they are outside now that should be good for light hrs. If they are being harassed my kids, cats, coons, or stacked in with too many roos, they will hold off laying too. Your older birds are likely going thru a moult and will pick back up once its over.... lots of feathers about and scruffy look'n birds are a good clue. And last but surely not least, Sameness.... Its a coturnix law that cant be broken. They Love "sameness" You move a cage, change feed, change pen mates, anything at all, and you could be punished with no eggs ... JJ had a long funny thread on this subject but I cant seem to find it now.... Good luck with your birds, Bill

Thanks. I've had the same issue the past 3 days and now I know it is probably because I just moved them to a new pen.
