It seems it's somewhat tricky to get Japanese Coturnix to sit. You'll want to increase the odds by making an area that can entice them to stay long enough to. A nice nesting box that is not too big but not too cramped w/ grasses will help. Making them comfortable & feeling safe is most important.

As well, have a back-up incubator heated & ready in case they abandon the nest. I've heard they can do this a few days before hatching (which is frustrating if you're not prepared). So best to prepare for a worst case scenario.

Best of luck!

It's not common but is known to happen, they have a reputation for giving up two thirds of the way through incubation or later. Giving them plenty of space and a selection of nesting sites will encourage them, and of course leaving the eggs in the nest to collect a full clutch.
You can't really make them but if you have enough hens with the right conditions you might get lucky.

If you're really eager to have broody quail I would suggest finding someone who has chicks that the mother hatched as good mothering instincts are often passed down. And a back up incubator and brooder in case the mother abandons the nest is a good idea too.

Cheers,
Jessie
