Hi

All 3 have now settled inside (1 male and 2 female japs).

However pip ( female) keeps having a manic episode. She jumps in sand bath, starts shouting then runs around shouting.

Wondering what that means...

huh. Somebody on here unkindly compared quail to middle schoolers: fickle, temperamental and prone to tantrums and the males completely driven by their sex drive. I have no idea what is going on with Pip except she is being a quail, poor thing.

Try offering a few upside down boxes with holes or PVC pipe connectors or old plastic plant pots upside down with holes cut so they make little hiding spots for the quail. It may not address the issue, but it might distract Pip and settle her down.

Thanks, will add some more tunnels etc. She has settled down now. She has always been prone to a paddy and a strop since she was hatched. Every month or so she will decide George ( male) isn't allowed in the coop and kicks him out !

Oh and I put fake plant vines hanging down so they have some spots to hide and peer out

Good on you. If Pip were a human, I'd say she was having a bad case of pre-menstrual syndrome. I guess quail get hormone surges, too. Poor little lady, and poor George! You have made things nicer for them, though!

She settled down but is harassing him again. I separated the run with just a tunnell to get through so they can't see each other but she hunts him down.
