Hello,
Been lurking here for the past few years regarding quails. Now i have a serious issue with one Quail and was hoping someone here could help me.
Situation (pic below):
Japanese coturnix quail, a pet, about 4 years 2 months old, suddenly over the past month has developed a very large lump on the left underside of the beak and severe swelling around the left eye. The left nostril is also clogged.
The beak lump is a hard mass, the eye swelling is fluid but possibly with a hard mass under.

I have tried:
- Chlortetracycline over a few weeks
- Amoxycillin tablets over a few weeks
- An avian vet (although inexperienced with quail it seems) who said the lumps could be a tumor given how theres multiple of them and that surgery could potentially result in the quail being put to sleep
- Vet tried draining the beak lump with a syringe, nothing came out
- Vet tried draining the eye lump, clear liquid and some blood came out but when ran through a microscope, nothing really showed up.
- Apple Cider Vinegar in water (why not)
- None of these have done anything
- there are no other symptoms. No sneezing, no coughing, no struggling to breathe, no rattling.
- He is running around, crowing, mounting others on occasion (3 males in a large pen), dust bathing etc, quite normal
- Struggles a little to eat and drink, has to tilt head a little to swallow, but otherwise fine
- A bit of redness deep inside the mouth, vet said was most likely related to the eye swelling
- The beak lump is visibly growing, more so than the eye swelling
- The other quails are not sick at all
