I’ve hatched a hundred quail but my rental chicken eggs are about to hatch this weekend (a friend ran out of incubator space) and I’ve never hatched chickens, what can I expect as far as differences, especially pipping? Quail have tiny, hairline cracks you can barely see, google seems to think chicken chicks all make giant holes (is this true?). Quail are maniacs, kicking eggs everywhere and dragging each other around by toes or wings, are chickens more chill? Any other major differences I should be aware of? Thanks!

Yes, you'll see a fairly large hole when they externally pip, the video is a pretty good example.

Yes, chicken chicks will also bowl the eggs, run over each other, etc. like Quail. Maybe slightly calmer than Quail, but similar actions. They do get calmer once there's a few hatched and they can snuggle.

I didn't find many major differences between Quail and Chicken chicks except for Quail chicks do like to "Pop" about more - so yeah, they are little maniacs.

Oh, and I won't be surprised if I see you keeping chickens in the future too!🤭
