quail vs, duck

When you consider which one is easier to raise, duck vs quail, There's no contest....quail are much easier to raise. Ducks make a mess, smell bad, eat a lot, take a lot of space and in general, a pain in the rear. They do taste good though. Wild duck should be cooked rare, it's done at 140 degrees. Try soaking the meat in salt water overnight in the fridge to eliminate the game taste. Cooked right both duck and quail are wonderful but each is different.

Most ducks are also noisier than quail so depending on where you live and how close your neighbors are quail might make for quieter meat birds.

I find duck to be a bit on the oily side, but I've only had peking duck meat. Not sure how other breeds taste.

No having raised quail, I do have to say I have found ducks (muscovy) quite simple. They rear their own young and I had no problems keeping 8-10 per 32 sq ft garden beds for grow out. The mess becomes an asset in that case as I grow them out in the fall and in the spring I have beautiful rich soil in my garden beds. I am on a 10th of an acre in Chicago.
