Quail with abscess

4 year old pet coturnix quail, male, with golf ball sized abscess on wing. Plans on aspirating with a sterile needle to remove the pus, but need to know best type and dosage of antibiotic. Local tractor supply has penicillin, but is there a better option? Let me know what you all think is best. I know many would cull, but he is a pet bird and otherwise healthy and I would like for him to live out the rest of his days comfortably with his buddies.

ER Veterinary Assistant and many years experience in cat/feline rescue, just lacking experience and knowledge of this type when it comes to poultry. Very comfortable with the aspirating/lancing and giving IM medication or oral. Can't afford a $600+ vet bill for a bird with only a few months left right now, just spent $600 on my favorite girl who was attacked by an animal (she is doing wonderfully by the way).
