Hello everyone,

I'm new to quail and have no idea how to deal with this. One of my 3 week old quail roosters got out while I was feeding them today. In flying/jumping around the garage, he injured his wing really badly. The bone is sticking out and it was bleeding. It looks like he completely severed the joint in his wing.

Is there a way to treat this? I would prefer to at least raise to 8 weeks, but don't want the bird to suffer. I am thinking about amputating the wing, but don't know how that will effect quality off life.

Does anyone have experience with this?

That poor bird is probably suffering pretty badly. If it was a clean break, I would recommend gently binding the wing to the body to immobilize it while it heals, but this sounds pretty bad. Personally, I would cull.

If culling isn't an option, your next bet would be to take him to a vet.

Thank you. I think it is pretty bad too. I was leaning toward culling as well. I did end up culling him this afternoon after a final brush up on some butchering videos I watched a while back. It went very smoothly and he isn't in pain anymore.
