I was thinking about getting more coturnix quail to add to the flock can you keep different variety of coturnix quail with jumbo brown coturnix quail. Can you keep rare color variety, pure celedon etc. with them.

I heard that you can have aggression problems. Guess i will find out as i have jumbos and just hatched some james marie white that my wife thought were pretty

I bought five in assorted colors because I didn't know better. Little Silver, the only silver one, was cruelly pecked one early morning. She had ugly purple peck marks on her head and neck and was being relentlessly chased when we discovered them. We separated her permanently and gave her as a companion Miss Bee, who is a blind (from birth) Texas AM. Everything is OK now, with two tractors in the yard during the day and two cages in the spare bathroom at night.

I wouldn't put them together, you are looking at potential trouble, rather heartbreaking trouble.

I have different colors housed together but they are all the same size. Not sure if the jumbos would cause problems. If you are looking at breeding they would probably all mix. That may or may not be a problem for you.

The only problems I have are when the younger ones get a bit big for their grow out pens and the boys start hitting sexual maturity. Only happens when I have to push back butchering due to not having enough time. Having enough space and a good male/female ratio is important. But you can't account for an individual bird's personality until after you try.

I have different colors as well, but they are all under 6 weeks except a couple right now. The adults are housed separately, this is a grow out own I am talking about. I have some white and some jumbo brown.

No fighting yet. Some of them were hatched together some of them not.

But if there becomes an issue I will just separate, and many are for harvesting before fall anyway.

Hi,
I have jumbo Blue Ridge Corturnix and I have some Falb Fee on the way. Does anyone know how well they will get along?
Generally the variety doesn’t matter, it’s just colors and average size. Some people strictly breed their birds based on temperament and will produce more docile birds. I find there are often a few trouble makers here and there, and once you remove them the flock calms down. Keep your numbers good, 3-5 hens per each rooster.

Individual birds get along differently with each other. If you introduce them properly they should never fight although they will probably stick to their own “kind” or at least the birds they were raised with. My jumbos are massive but are actually very relaxed and never start fights unless they're hungry and squabbling over feed.

Great! Thank you.
