Our chick has been home with us for 33 days. During our contactless chick pickup, I did not notice that one of our silkies has splayed legs until we got home. I tried to correct the chicks legs with vet tape, made a chair, separated it, fed it egg yolk, and fruit-infused probiotic water. I am trying to give our chick the best quality of life possible.

Our hatchery offered to give us a refund or a new chick, but I was hoping I could help fix our chick before taking them up on their generous offer.

Online, I read that many folks have successfully been able to correct splayed legs relatively quickly. I haven't had success in any of the treatments. All the other chicks that I picked up on the same day are happy, healthy, and growing. Our chick with the splayed legs looks like she's 1 week old, and she is not growing compared to the rest of the flock.

I am interested in learning what others have done to prolong their chick's quality of life with splayed legs.

Quality of life and life expectancy is really up to you or the person that has such a chick. With splayed legs, the chick will never be able to compete for food, water, etc. in a flock setting, but if someone wanted to keep it as a pet... As for me, I normally euthanize chicks with severe limitations; like splayed legs. Other issues like scissor beak, blind in one eye, or chronic breathing problems I help. They often repay me with fresh eggs, foster parents, or just as a novel pet.
