I recently ordered some silkies and a couple of blue swedish duckings. Would these silkies be enough quality to breed not for show of course, but for a starter silkie flock? Or is it better left to the proffesionals?

Go for it you gotta start somewhere. And in a few years who knows.

This might be what you see. Good luck. Mike

I hve one silkie chick from them and (my knowlege is limited mind you) she stinks! Not literally, she has more hard feathers then some of my other chicks, she will not be ery silkie or she might not be the right breed... I am very dissappointed and will be buying from breeders from now on...

All our silkies are from Ideal except one from a breeder. Of the colors we have I can honestly say that the Buff silkies are not that great of quality. However, that may change with Ideal in the future. I think our best are the Partridge and the dark blues. We also have an older grey that I really love. All have been friendly except the buffs. Just gave away the buff rooster tonight. I won't be showing them, but never planned to either.

The one I have from a breeder has nice fluff and all, but light skin and a single comb. All our Ideal silkies have the correct toes and combs.

The Silkies from any hatchery is PET QUALITY! If you want something better, go to a reputable breeder that raises show quality Silkies. Some of the BYCers in here will glad to help you!
