I am not 100% on why I am selling - I guess since I have found I can't free range my silkies like my layers - they aren't as fun as they used to be. I really enjoyed seeing them roaming around as they are so beautiful. However, for some reason they think they are great explorers and roam way further than my layers - down over the hill and into the woods. After 2 disappeared we built them an enclosed run, and it just isn't as fun for me to go see them in a pen rather than as I am walking around the property, so I can considering selling them as I have a lot of other things on the go.

I understand about your feelings! I have 3 beautiful Silkies and 1 well... ok Silkie w/ not as much feathering as I would like. I found that I can't free range even in the bright sunlit day and/or even with my presence outside. My losses are due to hawks and neighbors have had eagle problems esp with larger chickens. So now they are in our 10x10 chainlink dog kennel that has a cover over it at least it is there until we get a bigger storm. Our last was thrown over a fence into the psture where it left the ate, thrown over the next fence and ended up about 200 yds beyond! Hurricane anchors in the new one. Anyway, they are in the kennel. They scratch and walk around and I have a couple of really good broodies...but that is all. On the other hand, my d'Uccles just have so much more personallity. Actually, my Sebrights do, too. They are all in different pens. The Sebrights do fine with my large hens which d'Uccles don't, as they get picked on.
So just for thought...try d'Uccles for sweet, cute, tame bantams. Sebrights if you don't mind putting in more time and effort to tame them as they grow up.

I understand your not wanting to ship chicks but why not eggs? I would love to have a few fertile eggs!!! I just ordered chicken eggs for the 1st time this year and there is more packaging to be done, but I may try that next year with my d'Uccle's and maybe Silkies but have to find a nice roo first, ...so I am looking for eggs this winter. In the meantime I am trying bantam regular and frizzled Cochins for the first time. I currently have 1, hawk got 2 others so they went to the with my d'Uccles. My ordered eggs are due to start hatching in a couple of days!

I am interested. How far are you from Akron and do you have anything left?

Good luck on your hatch! Hatching can be a lot of fun. I am not planning to do any egg shipping. We hatch a few here under broodies and the rest , anything beyond what our family doesn't use, are donated upon being laid to our local food bank.

All of the black hens are now sold. Available colors are white, black, splash and blue. The remainder of the porcelains and buffs are spoken for pending pickup this weekend.

Edited to reflect what is sold.
