Are people as concerned about diseases from shipped eggs as they are day old babies?

I am questioning this because I ordered babies from Ideal to slip under a broody hen without thinking of the recommended quarantine period. I forgot.

Can't eggs carry diseases too?

Stephanie739,
I wish I was answering you. I bought 12 hatching eggs in late May off of a guy on Craig's list. I know you don't wash eggs that you plan on hatching, so I didn't, I slipped them under my ladies as is. I felt like I was really flirting with disaster, but was so caught up in the broody business that I didn't ask.

So, would love to hear if anyone else is concerned with that. This guy sells eggs on Ebay too, he just happens to be local. I didn't or haven't had any problems as of yet and the babies are nearly 8 weeks old, but it made me really uncomfortable until I stopped thinking about it. Also, I think mostly from the hatcheries you are safe with day olds as they are tested, etc., but I don't know. Also if you had quaranteened your babies, I almost guarantee that the broody mom would never have gone for the giants that had gone through quaranteen.

Hope you (we) get an answer.
