Quarantined cockerel going nuts!

Thanks @JedJackson those are some good suggestions! I'll try all of those. Should I stay away from him, or spend a lot of time in there so he can get used to me and have some company?

You are right, they are a smaller breed! I had never seen an araucana in person and was surprised at how small he is!

I would go in often until he gets more used to you and maybe stay for progressively longer periods of time. But obviously if he is panicking then it's best to leave until the next time. There's really no one size fits all for chickens-- they all have their own life experiences and personalities. But if he's to stay caged he's going to need to learn to cope with you when you feed and water him and clean his cage. And chickens are social, so he's probably lonely. He's a nice looking rooster! The color pattern is striking.

I agree - he may do better if you visit him. I would try to sit if possible, instead of standing over him.

Good idea. And maybe from a distance at first. The idea being to gradually get him used to his new situation and his new flockleader.

@Wyorp Rock I was planning on 2 weeks for quarantine. He looks really healthy. After I caught him when he escaped yesterday I checked him all over real good, looking for mites/lice, vent looked clean. His poops look good. I looked around at the rest of her flock and they all looked healthy. I know looks can deceiving, but the fact that one of her hens was 17 YEARS OLD is pretty comforting!

2wks should give you ample time to see if he gets sick or not. He does look very nice. It's great the breeder let you see her flock, that sounds very positive.

I hope he calms down, before his jail time is up, he may have become a lap chicken
