Question about 1st time brooder set up????

do u really need to keep them in brooder a month..? Mine are a week and I let them out and run around (inside a penned in area) and keep a heat lamp and small heater going?? then when they slept ( during the day when I was home) they still didnt sleep under the heat lamp, (which is 80 ish) ... I worry bout them bein too hot in the brooder and not warm enough out of it... the area they are in is 72-75 .. and warmer around the heat lamp..... hhhmmmmmmm and the brooder is a large tub but still seems to confining for running around and havin fun..uuggghhhhhh

Yes Amiga I am going to do the covered bowl with a half moon cut out of the top of the lid for the waterer. I saw it on another post and it looked like it works good. Then they can get their heads in but not their whole bodies and if they hop on top they wont fall in or tip it over.

I had been told to plan on them being in a brooder for about 6 weeks. I will let them outside to play when I'm home to supervise but will be in their box when I'm not here. Sound right?
