I plan on feeding my chickens when they are old enough pellet food.
Now my questions on feed.
Which is better? Puernia Layena Oyster strong which has no grit in it. So I would need to provide or
Purenia Layena Plus Omega -3 which says it has both oyster shell and grit. I will be getting egg layers and need to decide. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you for your input.

I have tried that brand and I did not like it at all. I found that the more processed food didn't agree as well with my hens. They went from laying everyday to about 3 times a week.

I switched back to what they had before with is Scratch and Peck Naturally Free Organic Layer. I love it! But more importantly my hens love it. ;) Their shells are strong and they lay way more! I cannot say enough good things about it. The Scratch and Peck brand is amazing and all their products are great. Just find which ever one works for you!

Chickens that get outside, and/ or are fed anything other than pellets or crumbles, need grit. They may find it in the dirt and gravel outside, but to be sure, providing some grit is best. Caged commercial layers get layer feed only, and don't need grit. Either feed would be fine, or use an all-flock feed with the oyster shell separately. Mary

Chickens hate change! Any change in their main diet will not go over well, so do it very gradually. Buy what is available within three or four weeks of mill date at your local feed stores! There are a variety of feeds available, but your local choices are likely to be limited, especially in freshness. Mary

You'll get many different answers to this. I use New Country Organic Whole Grain and also their Layer Feed Corn Free. Their whole grain can be fermented and the chickens love, love it. But all my friends use other brands. Find what you like and are comfortable with and stick with it. Folly's place had great advice....

I'm assuming you aren't going to feed the layer feed until they lay their first egg. Otherwise you will use something like "Start and Grow" until then.
