Spring is the main breeding season time, right?In Spring things can be a bit tense, and sometimes a roo that wouldn’t ordinarily be mean will give it a go, it’s more the intensity and frequency that are different in my experience. Some will never attack, but in Spring I don’t turn my back on any of them in small spaces.
The girls usually don’t lay through the winter and when they start ramping up in Spring the roosters hormones are running high, he’s ready to do his duty and it shows in their character for a bit. As Spring passes to Summer the roosters gradually slow their roll and don’t mate as much. By fall they’re not typically as persistent as they were in the Spring.
