So today was the big day we picked up our 5 2 1/2week old BRs. When we got them home and put them in their brooder I noticed there was some blood im the poop. I immediately though cocci and we ran out and got corrid to put in their water. They were wobbly droopy winged and tired at the time. Now they seem to be fine running peeping roasting flying to the top edge of the brooder. I did look up the poop page link i found on one of the other threads on here. And it looks as though sometimes blood in poop is normal and just shedding of the intestinal lining rather than liquid blood. And my poults seem to have what they concider the normal poop. But is it still normal if they are so young, should I still be treating them if Im not sure if they are sick? Can I harm them by giving them the meds unneccesarily? Any help would be greatly appriciated. Oh and they also are on medicated turkey starter as that is what I had leftover on hand from my 9 weekold BBWs.

Treat them with the full course. It won't hurt them. The pics are too close to call as far as it being shed intestinal lining or blood. Shed lining usually isn't so dark looking. It is normally lighter red and it looks like tissue instead of looking like blood. Your pics could go either way.

Good luck with them.

Thank you both for your replies! I plan or doing the full treatmant just incase. I did contact the farm we got them from and she says most likely they are just stressed from the move and they should return to normal in a few days. She says they raise them on wire and they never touch the soil as young poults so she thinks chances are very slim its cocci. But just incase i will follow through with the treatment. We dipped their beaks in the water numerous times throughout the day today and i saw them going on their own to drink after that also. They also after much coaxing found the feeder and ate. They seem ok but im still nervous they slept most of the day and one seems much sleepier and less interested in whats going on than the others. I really hope they all make it. People have made me so nervous saying how hard poults are to keep alive and turkeys look for ways to die. My last poults I got at 5 weeks old so I wasnt so finicky.
